Dear Parents,
I would like to introduce my homework policy as we get started this year. I will occasionally give homework assignments, it will be once every other Monday. Sometimes it will be math, other times it will be spelling, science and family activities. I expect the homework returned the Friday after it is given. If the homework is given Monday the 12th I expect it back Friday the 16th. Generally speaking, we have reading every night, and I would like you to keep a log so I know how about how many hours per week your child is reading at home.
The purpose of homework is two main reasons, to reinforce what we have learned in class, and to teach responsibility. We will go over homework Friday morning and the children will rate their homework, they will be able to tell me how much they liked it and how hard they thought it was. By returning the homework, shows me the child is responsible and prepared. A child without his homework done loses twice—both in learning through reinforcement, and in listening to explanations in class. There will be a small consequnce, that is sitting out during recess and doing the homework assignment. Although I will give them three extra days to turn it in before giving a consequence I am also trying, in kindergarten, to help students develop good work habits for future years. Also if there is something going on and a child cannot get get their homework done, shoot me and email or note to let me know and they will be off the hook :) Again I am willing to work with each and everyone of you as long as there is communication going on.
